What is API 5L?

API 5L is an American Petroleum Institute specification covers seamless and welded pipes for transportation pipeline systems. It standardizes pipeline transportation systems within the materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries. This standard covers two basic product specifications levels (PSL) PSL 1 and PSL 2. API 5L PSL1 is a standard quality for line pipe whereas PSL 2 contains additional chemical, mechanical properties and test requirement.
