Nickel Alloy 20 (UNS N08020 / W.Nr. 2.4660) is a corrosion-resistant austenitic alloy made of nickel, iron, chromium, along with additions of copper and molybdenum. It contains around 19% to 21% chromium and 32% to 38% nickel. With the addition of copper (Cu) and molybdenum (Mo), it offers excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting corrosion, and crevice corrosion. It is widely used in industries such as chemical, food, pharmaceutical and plastic industries, and is also applied to heat exchangers, mixing tanks, metal cleaning and pickling equipment, as well as pipelines.
We focus on manufacturing various high-performance nickel alloy materials, including Inconel、Incoloy、Monel、Hastelloy、Alloy 20、Alloy 825、Nickel 200/201, and more. And our products cover a wide range of categories, including pipes, bars, plates, forgings, pipe fittings, valves, and fasteners. We’ve set up a complete quality management system, making sure that each product is of outstanding quality. Customization is available based on your needs. We also have a large stock available. Nickel Alloy 20 Features
1. Good alkali resistance
Nickel alloy 20 (UNS N08020) also shows good corrosion resistance in alkaline media such as sodium hydroxide and copper hydroxide. The nickel alloy 20 we offer contains corrosion-resistant elements like chromium and tungsten, which significantly enhance its toughness and resistance to alkaline corrosion.
2. Good wear resistance
Nickel alloy 20 (UNS N08020) also offers good wear resistance, especially in oxidizing conditions. For instance, in chemical equipment applications, Alloy 20 significantly extends service life and maintains stable performance. This not only reduces frequent repairs but also cuts down on costly equipment replacements.
3. Excellent acid resistance
Nickel alloy 20 (UNS N08020) has excellent resistance to acid corrosion, it can be used for a long time in strong acids such as sulfuric acid (below 80%), phosphoric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. Because it contains high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and copper, which help create a stable passive film to prevent acid corrosion.
4. Outstanding corrosion resistance
Nickel Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) that we offer also has outstanding corrosion resistance. It can not only resists acid corrosion but also performs very well in severe conditions, like high chloride levels, high temperatures, fast flow rates and more. Which is why it’s commonly used in various chemical equipments.
5. Excellent mechanical properties and machinability
Nickel alloy 20 (UNS N08020) exhibits excellent mechanical performance and machinability. It offers high strength, remarkable toughness, and outstanding wear resistance. These properties enable easy machining, welding, and shaping processes, making it a versatile choice for a broad spectrum of industrial applications.
Nickel Alloy 20 Application
Nickel alloy 20 was originally developed for the sulfuric acid industry, but it is now widely used across many other sectors. In addition to its extensive use in petrochemical process equipment, it is also commonly used in other industries. And we’ve listed them below for you clearly. Let’s take a look.
- Synthetic rubber production equipment
- Processing of pharmaceuticals, plastics, organics, and heavy chemicals
- Storage tanks, pipes, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and other process equipment
- Pickling equipment
- Chemical process pipelines, reaction vessels
- Blister packaging

Alloy 20: Stainless Steel or Nickel Alloy?
Is Alloy 20 a stainless steel or a nickel alloy? Alloy 20 is an austenitic alloy with a nickel content between 32–38%, located at the classification boundary between stainless steel and nickel alloy. Alloy 20 can be called a nickel alloy due to its high nickel content, but its inclusion in ASTM A240 shows it’s now classified as stainless steel. No matter how it is classified, Alloy 20 possesses outstanding corrosion resistance. Especially in media such as those containing chlorides, formic acid, acetic acid, acid anhydrides, dry chlorine gas, and seawater, it demonstrates excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and local corrosion, and is widely used in chemical environments.
