Pipe Reducer and Swage Nipple

Swage Nippe is also belonged to Pipe Reducer. The purpose is reducing the both ends of pipeline. Same as pipe reducer, they also have concentric and eccentric. The standard of Swage Nipple is MSS SP and BS3799.

There are some difference between Pipe Reducer and Swage Nipple as below.

Stainless Steel Pipe Reducer

Pipe Reducer Diameter Scope

Reducer: The size is from DN15-DN3400(1/2″~136″), Concentric Reducer, 8 in x 6 in, BW, Sch60 ASTM A234-WPB ASME B16.9

Swage Nipple: The size is from DN6-DN300(1/4″-12″).The largest commonly use size is DN100 (4”). Concentric swage nipple PBE, 1 in x 3/4 in, Sch160 MSS SP

Steel Reducer Original Material

The reducer is made by seamless pipe (DN100x80 Eccentric Reducer A234 WPB) and steel plate ( DN800 Concentric Reducer Weld SS304). Seamless is produced by steel pipe A106B and weld is by steel plate SS316.

Swage nipple is forged by round bar or billet. Like A105N Swage Nipple Conc 1‘’ x 3/4″ and 2″ x 1 1/2″ Swage Nipple Galvanized.

Manufacturing Technique of Forgings

The seamless pipe reducer’s technics is hot pressed or cold pressed. But cold pressed need to do heat treatment. For weld reducer, it is hot rolling.

The technics of swage nipple is forging.

Swage Nipple MSS SP End Type

The end of reducer is BE, very less is PE. Compare with reducer, the swage nipple have more types, both ends could be consistent or inconsistent, it depends on the site or design requirement. The end types are BE,PE and Thread. Swage Nipple 3/8”x1/4” NPTM x NPTF.

Additional

1）State the threaded type, NPT or BSP

2）The large end and small end of swage nipple have PE, BE and Thread separately. They can combine with each other and make nine combinations. For example,Concentric Swage nipple PBE, 1 in x 1/2 in, S-160 x S-160, MSS SP , Nipple, 3/4 in, PExPE, S-160, 100 mm, ASTM A106-B, Concentric Reducer, 6 in x 4 in, BW, Sch40 BE ASTM A234-WPB ASME B16.9
