Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets are three commonly used branch pipe connection fittings in pipeline systems, and they have obvious differences.

In the world of piping and pipeline systems, efficiency, reliability, and safety are paramount. When designing or modifying piping systems, various components, and fittings come into play to ensure the smooth flow of fluids or gases. One such crucial component is the olet. The olet can be divided into Weldolet , sockolet and threadolet.

Specifications for Outlet

Outlet

Connection

Standard

Size Range

Pressure Rating

WELDOLET

BW

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 24″ / DN6 – DN600

STD、XS，SCH160

SOCKOLET

SW

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 4″ / DN6 – DN100

Class 3000lbs, 6000lbs

THREADOLET

THD

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 4″ / DN6 – DN100

Class 3000lbs, 6000lbs

What is Weldolet?

A Weldolet is a type of branch connection fitting used in piping systems to create a branch connection from a larger main pipe to a smaller pipe or pipeline component. It is designed to provide a smooth transition from the main pipe to the branch pipe. Thus facilitating efficient fluid or gas flow while minimizing turbulence.

Key Advantages of Weldolets

Sealing principle: Through welding, the branch seat and the pipeline are integrated, and the metal at the weld is tightly fused, which can effectively prevent medium leakage.

Sealing effect: It can withstand high pressure and temperature, and can maintain good sealing in long-term operation.

Applicable pipe materials: Applicable to pipes of various materials, especially metal pipes, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc.

Applicable working environment: Commonly used in high temperature, high pressure, flammable and explosive working environments with extremely high connection strength and sealing requirements.

What is Socketolet

The main pipe connection part of the socketolet has a larger socket, the main pipe is inserted into the socket, and then the sealing material is used to achieve sealing.

To create a 90-degree pipe branch, use socks. Socket weld Outlets may be “decreasing” or “size on size.”

Key Advantages of Socketolet

Sealing principle: mainly through the sealing material to form a seal between the socket and the pipe.

Sealing effect: The sealing performance is good and can meet the sealing requirements of general low-pressure pipeline systems, but under high-pressure environments, the sealing material may be squeezed and deformed, affecting the sealing effect.

Applicable pipe materials: commonly used for plastic pipes (such as PVC, PPR, etc.), thin-walled metal pipes, etc.

Applicable working environment: suitable for low-pressure, normal temperature working environments, such as building water supply and drainage systems, urban water supply systems, etc.

What is Threadolet?

A Threadolet is a type of branch fitting that is used to provide an outlet from a larger pipe to a smaller one.Unlike Weldolets and Sockolets, which are designed for welding, Threadolets facilitate connections via threaded fittings. This characteristic makes Threadolets particularly useful in applications where welding is not feasible or where a detachable connection is preferred for maintenance or operational flexibility.

Key Advantages of Threadolet

Applicable pipe materials: mainly suitable for metal pipes, and can also be used for some plastic pipes with certain strength and toughness.

Applicable working environment: suitable for working environments with medium and low pressure, normal temperature or little temperature change, and has advantages in occasions where frequent disassembly and installation are required.

Sealing principle: Sealing is achieved by relying on the tight bite of threads and sealing materials.

Sealing effect: Under normal use, the sealing performance is good, but under high temperature, high pressure or frequent vibration environment, the threaded connection may become loose, resulting in a decrease in sealing performance.

Conclusion

Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets are indispensable components in pipe and pipeline systems. Their efficiency, ease of installation and ability to create smooth branch connections make them the first choice in various industries. By understanding the sealing principles, advantages and applications of Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets, engineers and professionals can make informed decisions when designing and implementing complex piping systems.

The post Differences between Weldolet, Sockolet, and Threadolet. appeared first on Supplier of Quality Forged Fittings-Flanges.

Threaded pipe fittings refer to pipe fittings connect with pipes by internal or external threads and their dimensions are no more than 4 inch in most cases. Thread connection is the oldest way that we still use today.

Most of forged threaded fittings are specified
in ASME B16.11, including threaded elbow, threaded tee, half and full coupling,
threaded cap, hex nipple, bushing and plug. ASME B16.11 is an American standard
which popular internationally.

In addition to this, there are other common used standards and fittings such as BS 3799 threaded fittings, MSS-SP-97 threadolet, MSS-SP-83 union and ASME B36.19 nipple.

Threaded Pipe Fittings Catalogue

Threaded Elbow

It is shorten as THD elbow sometimes. Threaded elbow is used to connect pipe and change the directions of flow in 90 degree or 45 degree. The dimension of two end could be equal or reducing.

Thread Types of Forged Threaded Pipe Fittings

The threads are also available in different
types, the most prevalent types are NPT, BSPP and BSPT.

NPT is the standard threads type for ASME
B16.11 threaded pipe fittings, it is a tapered thread with 60°angles. Its connection requires the help of sealant.

BSPP is British standard parallel threads,
its sealing requires a seal ring. BSPP threaded pipe fittings are popular in
Asia, Europe, Australia and South Africa.

BSPT is also a British threads, but it is tapered with 55°angles. BSPT and BSPT belong to BSP threads, but they cannot use together.

Applications of ASME B16.11 Forged Fittings

Forged threaded pipe fittings can withstand
high pressure up to class 6000, however, due to socket weld fittings have
better leap-proof than threaded fittings, threaded fittings are more prevalent
in lower pressure ratings. They are suitable for pipe system where welding is
difficult to operate.

ASME B16.11 Threaded Pipe fittings are
widely used in
