What is Weldolet

The Weldolet is a branch connection fitting used in piping systems to connect branches from a main pipe to smaller pipes or pipe components. It is designed to create a smooth transition between the main pipe and the branch, promoting efficient flow of fluids or gases while minimizing turbulence. The design of the weldolet minimizes stress concentration and provides overall reinforcement. The butt-weld pipe branch is available in three pressure grades: STD, XS and Sch160.

Olet Fittings

A olet provides a branching point from a large-diameter pipe to a smaller-diameter pipe. The pipe welded onto the tee is called the main pipe, while the pipe welded onto the tee is called the branch pipe. Olet fittings come in full sizes, types, bores, and pressure ratings. Materials can include stainless steel, chromium-molybdenum alloy, or other alloy materials.

Olet fittings are providing an outlet from a larger pipe to a smaller one. They are used to instead of connected fittings such as reducing tees, reinforcing plates, and reinforced pipe sections.

There are many types based on the varity piping connected methods that weldolet, thredolet, sockolet, latrolet, elbolet, nipolet, sweepolet and flangolet. Why they are popular, because its outstanding advantages, such as safety, reliability, low cost and simple construction.

ASTM A105 Carbon Steel Weldolet

ASTM A105 is a commonly used standard for carbon steel forging materials, employed in the manufacture of various pipe fittings for pipeline systems, including Weldolet. The selection of this material for weldolet primarily leverages the superior properties of carbon steel to meet specific pipeline connection requirements under given operating conditions.

ASTM A182 Weldolet

ASTM A182 is a material standard for forged or rolled alloy steel and stainless steel pipe fittings suitable for high-temperature service. Therefore, ASTM A182 butt-welded branch seats serve as an ideal replacement for carbon steel (such as ASTM A105) in applications demanding superior material strength, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature performance.

Alloy Steel

Alloy steel grades specified in the ASTM A182 standard are typically chromium-molybdenum steels (Cr-Mo steels). These grades are made by adding chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo) to improve their high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and corrosion resistance. These steels typically require heat treatment to achieve the desired mechanical properties.

Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets are three commonly used branch pipe connection fittings in pipeline systems, and they have obvious differences.

In the world of piping and pipeline systems, efficiency, reliability, and safety are paramount. When designing or modifying piping systems, various components, and fittings come into play to ensure the smooth flow of fluids or gases. One such crucial component is the olet. The olet can be divided into Weldolet , sockolet and threadolet.

Specifications for Outlet

Outlet

Connection

Standard

Size Range

Pressure Rating

WELDOLET

BW

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 24″ / DN6 – DN600

STD、XS，SCH160

SOCKOLET

SW

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 4″ / DN6 – DN100

Class 3000lbs, 6000lbs

THREADOLET

THD

MSSSP-97

1/8″ – 4″ / DN6 – DN100

Class 3000lbs, 6000lbs

What is Weldolet?

A Weldolet is a type of branch connection fitting used in piping systems to create a branch connection from a larger main pipe to a smaller pipe or pipeline component. It is designed to provide a smooth transition from the main pipe to the branch pipe. Thus facilitating efficient fluid or gas flow while minimizing turbulence.

Key Advantages of Weldolets

Sealing principle: Through welding, the branch seat and the pipeline are integrated, and the metal at the weld is tightly fused, which can effectively prevent medium leakage.

Sealing effect: It can withstand high pressure and temperature, and can maintain good sealing in long-term operation.

Applicable pipe materials: Applicable to pipes of various materials, especially metal pipes, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc.

Applicable working environment: Commonly used in high temperature, high pressure, flammable and explosive working environments with extremely high connection strength and sealing requirements.

What is Socketolet

The main pipe connection part of the socketolet has a larger socket, the main pipe is inserted into the socket, and then the sealing material is used to achieve sealing.

To create a 90-degree pipe branch, use socks. Socket weld Outlets may be “decreasing” or “size on size.”

Key Advantages of Socketolet

Sealing principle: mainly through the sealing material to form a seal between the socket and the pipe.

Sealing effect: The sealing performance is good and can meet the sealing requirements of general low-pressure pipeline systems, but under high-pressure environments, the sealing material may be squeezed and deformed, affecting the sealing effect.

Applicable pipe materials: commonly used for plastic pipes (such as PVC, PPR, etc.), thin-walled metal pipes, etc.

Applicable working environment: suitable for low-pressure, normal temperature working environments, such as building water supply and drainage systems, urban water supply systems, etc.

What is Threadolet?

A Threadolet is a type of branch fitting that is used to provide an outlet from a larger pipe to a smaller one.Unlike Weldolets and Sockolets, which are designed for welding, Threadolets facilitate connections via threaded fittings. This characteristic makes Threadolets particularly useful in applications where welding is not feasible or where a detachable connection is preferred for maintenance or operational flexibility.

Key Advantages of Threadolet

Applicable pipe materials: mainly suitable for metal pipes, and can also be used for some plastic pipes with certain strength and toughness.

Applicable working environment: suitable for working environments with medium and low pressure, normal temperature or little temperature change, and has advantages in occasions where frequent disassembly and installation are required.

Sealing principle: Sealing is achieved by relying on the tight bite of threads and sealing materials.

Sealing effect: Under normal use, the sealing performance is good, but under high temperature, high pressure or frequent vibration environment, the threaded connection may become loose, resulting in a decrease in sealing performance.

Conclusion

Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets are indispensable components in pipe and pipeline systems. Their efficiency, ease of installation and ability to create smooth branch connections make them the first choice in various industries. By understanding the sealing principles, advantages and applications of Weldolets, sockolets and threadolets, engineers and professionals can make informed decisions when designing and implementing complex piping systems.

The post Differences between Weldolet, Sockolet, and Threadolet. appeared first on Supplier of Quality Forged Fittings-Flanges.
