What is ASME B16.9

This Standard ASME B16.9 covers overall dimensions, tolerances, ratings, testing, and markings for factory-made wrought Butt Welding Fittings in sizes NPS 1⁄2 through NPS 48 (DN 15 through DN 1200).

Pipe Fittings can also be made to special dimensions, sizes and shapes by agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.

Butt Weld Fittings

 

They are including Steel Elbow, Equal Tee, Reducing Tee,  Pipe Cap, Eccentric Reducer, Concentric Reducer and Stub End, which are specified by nominal pipe size and schedule. Usually using seamless or welded pipe as the starting material and  get the shape of elbows, tees and reducers etc by forging (through multiple process) . The Schedule 10 to Schedule 160 is matching with the pipe schedule.

Butt Weld Tee

There are two types that equal tee and reducing tee.

Butt Weld Elbow

Their role is to change the direction of the flow.

Elbow Types

LR is Long radius which mean R=1.5D

SR is short radius which mean R=1D

30 Degree, 45 Degree, 60 Degree, 90 Degree, 180 Degree

Butt Weld Cap

Stainless Steel Butt Weld Cap act as a seal to the end of a pipe. Their primary function is to waterproof piping system in addition to resisting chemicals, moisture and weather.

The Metal Pipe Cap fits on the outer diameter (O.D.) of the pipe.
For Example – The 6″ Pipe Cap fits over a 6.625″ Pipe. You can refer to below.

Butt Weld Reducer

They are always connecting large pipe to smaller pipe by welding. There are types of concentric reducer and eccentric reducer.

Butt Weld Stub End

Stub End is customarily used with lap joint flanges, the stub end forming the face of the flange.
