Difference between Long Radius Elbow & Short R Elbow

180° LR Elbow & SR Elbow

LR & SR elbow have the same inner and outer diameter, angle and schedule. The only difference is their center to face distance.

Center to face refers to the center line of one end to the opposite face. LR elbow center to face distance is 1.5 times the NPS (R=1.5D), SR elbow is equal to the NPS (R=1D).

Short radius elbow is suitable for tight areas, while long radius 180 degree elbow is better when it is scoured and worn.

For the surface

• Hand and visual check the surface of 180 degree lr elbow
• Avoid dents, die marks, porosity, undercuts.

For the dimensions

• Measure the sizes of diameter, center to end and back to face.
• Check if the size are in tolerance. The tolerance of 180 degree LR elbow is as follow.
