Dimension Inspection of Stainless Steel Seamless Pipes

Outer Diameter (OD): Typically measured using a micrometer, vernier caliper, or ring gauge. During inspection, measurements should be taken at multiple cross-sections and locations along the pipe, with the maximum and minimum values recorded to verify compliance with allowable tolerances and assess ovality.

Wall Thickness: Wall thickness is a critical parameter affecting the pipe’s pressure-bearing capacity. During inspection, measurements are taken using an ultrasonic thickness gauge or micrometer. Typically, measurements are taken at multiple points, such as both ends and the middle of the pipe, to ensure uniform wall thickness and compliance with standards.

Length: Pipe length inspection is typically performed using a steel tape measure or automated length measurement device. For fixed-length pipes, length deviations must be strictly controlled within the standards’ permissible range.

Packaging

End Protection: Plastic caps or rubber sleeves are installed at both ends of the pipe to protect the pipe ends and surfaces from impact damage.

Bundling and Securing: Multiple pipes are bundled together using steel bands, steel wires, or plastic straps. During bundling, protective materials must be placed between the pipes and the bundling straps to prevent the straps from damaging the pipe surfaces.

Wooden Box Construction: Customize sturdy wooden boxes according to the dimensions and quantity of the pipes. The materials used for the wooden boxes must comply with international transportation standards and may require fumigation treatment to meet international quarantine requirements.

ASTM A312 TP316L Seamless Pipe

What is ASTM A312 TP316L Seamless Pipe?

ASTM A312 TP316L seamless pipe is a type of seamless stainless steel pipe manufactured using TP316L stainless steel material in accordance with the ASTM A312 standard.

ASTM A312: This is the production standard followed by the product, covering austenitic stainless steel seamless pipes, welded pipes, and cold-worked welded pipes for high-temperature and general corrosion-resistant applications.

TP316L: This is an austenitic stainless steel grade, with “L” indicating low carbon (Low carbon). Compared to TP316, it has a lower carbon content, significantly reducing carbide precipitation during welding and lowering the risk of intergranular corrosion, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring welding and use in corrosive environments.

Seamless pipes: Manufactured by piercing solid steel billets, they have no weld seams, ensuring uniform structural integrity and high strength, capable of withstanding high pressures. Compared to welded tubes, seamless tubes typically offer superior dimensional accuracy and surface quality, making them suitable for engineering applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance.

Advantages

The core advantages of ASTM A312 TP316L seamless pipes lie in their exceptional corrosion resistance and excellent weldability.

Corrosion Resistance: Due to the addition of molybdenum, TP316L exhibits higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, typically outperforming 304 stainless steel in durability.

Weldability: Its extremely low carbon content allows it to resist intergranular corrosion without requiring post-weld heat treatment, making it particularly suitable for thin-walled pipes that require welding.

High-Pressure Resistance: The manufacturing process of seamless tubes ensures a uniform structure, enabling them to withstand higher internal pressures, making them ideal for applications with stringent strength requirements.

High-Temperature Resistance: TP316L tubing maintains excellent performance in high-temperature environments up to 870°C.

Application Scenarios

Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry: Pipes for transporting corrosive media.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries: Equipment and pipes for handling chemicals and corrosive fluids.

Marine and Coastal Environments: Its excellent resistance to chloride corrosion makes it an ideal choice for marine engineering and coastal facilities.

Food and Beverage Processing: Pipes for production lines with extremely high hygiene requirements.
