Socket weld pipe cap is pipe cap that socket welding at the end of a pipe in order to stop the flow. socket weld is a pipe attachment detail in which a pipe is inserted into a recessed area of a pipe cap, it mainly used for small diameter pipe system within NPS 4. It is a good choice for the benefits of high leakage integrity and great structural strength.

Features of Socekt Weld Pipe Fittings

  • Used for lines conveying flammable, toxic or expensive material where no leakage can be permitted.
  • Only used in conjunction with ASME pipe.
  • The purpose for the bottoming clearance is usually to reduce the residual stress at the root of the weld that could occur during solidification of the weld metal, and to allow for differential expansion of the mating elements.

Advantages 

  • Simple welding compared to buttweld pipe cap, construction costs are lower than butt weld joint, too.
  • Pipe end is no need to be beveled for welding
  • Risk of leakage is much smaller
